Johannesburg, West Rand. In a significant act of corporate social responsibility, Silverstar Casino, after their successful “Games for Good” gaming promotion, donated a cheque for R75,000 to the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) on Sunday, March 30, 2025.
At the handover ceremony, Simon Manda, representing the NCPD, received the donation from Ryan Nicholas, Director of Operations and Complex General Manager at Silverstar Casino, and Nompilo Mahlanze, Promotions Manager.
With each entry into the final draw contributing R10 towards the donation, the “Games for Good” promotion encouraged customers to use their rewards cards to play slots and table games. After that, Silverstar Casino added another R50,000 to the donation, making it R75,000 in total.
Nicholas stressed the value of corporate involvement in social causes in a video interview. He said, “At Silverstar Casino, we believe that businesses have a responsibility to find innovative ways to support organisations making a difference in our communities.
“We were able to combine entertainment and purpose with the ‘Games for Good’ promotion, which created a win-win scenario where our guests could have fun while supporting a worthwhile cause.”
Silverstar Casino’s Communications Manager, Chanelle Willmot, described the workings of the effective campaign: “R10 was given to NCPD for each ticket that was entered into our grand draw. We created the promotion to make giving back easy and interesting for our customers. We’re pleased to see how our community united to support this deserving cause, as hundreds of people joined the initiative.”
In his statement of appreciation for the donation, Manda noted that the money will contribute towards a number of initiatives that will enhance the quality of life for persons with disabilities throughout South Africa.
NCPD National Director Therina Wentzel expressed her sincere gratitude to Silverstar Casino, saying, “We are extremely appreciative of Silverstar Casino’s continuous support of our mission. Their commitment extends beyond their financial support; they genuinely recognize the value of fostering an inclusive society for persons with disabilities. Our programmes across the country will be positively impacted by this R75,000 donation, which will enable us to reach more people and improve our services for those who need them the most.”
Wentzel also disclosed that Silverstar Casino has offered their assistance by funding all of the planning for NCPD’s next Show and Tell in Gauteng.
“Silverstar has agreed to pay for all the logistical costs associated with our Show and Tell event, which is set for April 1st, 2025, in addition to this kind donation. 400 beneficiaries and participants from Casual Day, our main fundraising platform, will be present at this event. Silverstar’s all-encompassing support shows their sincere dedication to NCPD’s cause, and we are incredibly grateful to have been acknowledged for our efforts to better the lives of persons with disabilities.”
Through the Show and Tell event, NCPD will share this year’s Casual Day theme as well as reveal the contributions and monies raised in the last campaign. For more on NCPD’s projects and initiatives, visit www.ncpd.org.za
