Casual Day has a strong and long running support from Government Departments all over South Africa. The project also supports the disability units of 11 universities, the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF). Municipalities, Precincts, Offices of Premiers are amongst just a handful of government departments who host Casual Day events each year, often organising marches and virtual events in support of persons with disabilities.

How do Government Departments get involved?

Casual Day is an annual national awareness and fundraising campaign that takes place on the first Friday of September, this year, it falls on Friday, 5 September 2025. It’s a powerful opportunity for government departments to show solidarity with persons with disabilities, both on-site and virtually.

Here’s how to get involved:

1. Appoint a Casual Day Co-ordinator
   Each department should nominate a Casual Day Co-ordinator, or and become one yourself. The Co-ordinator leads the campaign within the department and ensures management is on board.

2. Receive Your Free Promotional Pack
   Once registered, you’ll receive a free promotional kit, which includes posters, resources, and a supply of Casual Day stickers. These will be couriered directly to you.

3. Activate Your Team

• • Distribute stickers for a donation of R20 each.
  • Display posters in high-traffic areas.
  • Encourage staff to wear Casual Day merchandise or follow the official theme on the day.
  • Consider hosting a department-wide event or activation to boost participation and visibility.
