The National Council of and for Persons
with Disabilities

Advocacy and lobbying

Advocacy and lobbying for the rights of persons with disabilities are a primary function of the NCPD. As a critical focus area, we oppose rights violations by the government and society and embark on multi-faceted strategies to combat rights violations and promote the fundamental rights and freedoms of persons with disabilities.

These rights and liberties are entrenched in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with disabilities, the South African Constitution, with particular reference to Section 9 and the Bill of Rights, as well as of the South African disability rights policy, the White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Regarding these treaties and policies, the NCPD insists on equality for persons with disabilities who are entitled to all the human rights and freedoms of all other people and on an equal basis with everyone else.
