Advocacy and lobbying

Advocacy and lobbying for the rights of persons with disabilities is a primary function of the NCPD, and one we take very seriously. We insist on equality for persons with disabilities who have the same inherent human rights and freedoms as anyone else.

As a critical focus area, we oppose rights violations by the government and society, and use multi-faceted strategies to combat rights violations and promote the fundamental rights and freedoms of persons with disabilities which are entrenched in the UN Convention on the Rights of persons with disabilities, the South African Constitution, with particular reference to Section 9 and the Bill of Rights, as well as the White Paper on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, South Africa’s disability rights policy.

Disability has nothing to do with “ability”, but it has everything to do with discrimination!
