NCPD Celebrates Successful 30th Anniversary Casual Day Campaign with Outstanding Photo Competition

The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) has now ended its milestone 30th anniversary Casual Day Campaign that saw record numbers of involvement and thousands of powerful moments captured through its #ISeeYou photographic competition.

The 2024 campaign, themed “I See You,” successfully built upon three decades of promoting inclusion and visibility for persons with disabilities across South Africa. Since its inception in 1994, Casual Day has blossomed into a phenomenally visible movement in the country that tirelessly advocates for access and provides real solutions targeting the estimated 3.3 million persons with disabilities in South Africa.

“The phenomenal response to our 30th anniversary initiative proves unequivocally that South Africans rightly are enthusiastically striving for a society in which each citizen is truly seen,” states Therina Wentzel, NCPD’s National Director. “Through the thousands of photos shared across social media, we witnessed how the ‘I See You’ message resonated deeply with communities nationwide, bringing our vision of recognition and empowerment to life.”

Using Casual Day funds, NCPD still contributes to the much-needed resources such as assistive devices, skills development programs, job placements, accessible transportation, sustainable food gardens, gender-based violence support, nappies for continence care and human rights’ advocacy support. These projects are still important as the organisation strives to enable the social and economic inclusion of persons with disabilities through increased access.

Looking forward, NCPD is now well on its way to a far more impactful Casual Day 2025. The effort will declare the 31st anniversary theme and state the amount of money raised last year in its “Show and Tell” events beginning in March 2025.

“Our 30th anniversary campaign was a grand plan that bore good fruits,” says Wentzel. “We are deeply grateful to every South African who purchased a sticker, wore our merchandise, and shared their stories. Your support enables us to continue our important work in transforming lives and building a more inclusive society.”
