Hearing Loss Live, based in Utah, USA, and FanieDreams Movement, based in Cape Town, South Africa, are excited to announce a working relationship aimed at supporting people with hearing loss. Our partnership recognizes that successful management of hearing loss goes beyond hearing aids and cochlear implants. Lipreading, or speech-reading, is a valuable strategy to fill communication gaps, and Hearing Loss Live’s classes and support services provide people with the tools to improve their communication skills.
Lip-reading/speech reading happens spontaneously without people realizing it, as it’s a natural coping mechanism! Even those individuals without hearing challenges find themselves relying on lip-reading in noisy environments. Lip-reading/speech reading is the foundation on which each of the 4 million persons with hearing disabilities in South Africa build their daily interactions with their loved ones, family, friends, and colleagues. Now we have a training programme to improve your lip-reading skills!
FanieDreams Movement will coordinate interest in Hearing Loss Live’s lipreading classes and facilitate interaction with the organization in the Southern African region.
“We believe this partnership will benefit people with hearing loss who do not use a signed language as their primary medium of communication,” said Fanie du Toit, founder of FanieDreams Movement. “Our organizations’ focus areas complement each other, creating a win-win situation for all.”
Those in South Africa, can contact Fanie du Toit to learn more about this working relationship. In the USA, you can contact Hearing Loss Live directly
